My approach to therapy.
Are you struggling to feel connected - to yourself, to your values, to others? Having a hard time letting go of old stories? I believe there are powerful forces that disconnect us from our truth - the forces of trauma, oppression, diet-culture, even our old ways of survival. In our work together we will center reconnection - to yourself, to your body and the wisdom contained within. I believe our relationships are enhanced when we commit to building trust within ourselves. We'll work together to identify patterns, areas for growth, your strengths and values, and explore the impacts of culture, identity, relationships, and family of origin.
I aim to understand your experience in context. I view human behavior as an adaptation to circumstance and internal experience. Together we'll work to identify and honor how a behavior or way of thinking has worked for you in the past, before collaborating to identify a new way to move forward. It takes strength and courage to reach out for support. It is always my goal to meet your vulnerability with curiosity and non-judgement and to create a therapeutic space grounded in dignity and compassion.
I look forward to joining you in client-directed care to facilitate insight-driven change, and to cultivate curiosity towards the many thoughts, feelings and relationships that shape your experience. I borrow from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. My practice is informed by the values of social justice. I am committed to understanding your experience relative to your intersecting identities and systems of power.
